Simple Fun

This morning afternoon, I woke up late. Like really late. Slept a little late the day before so I was knocked out the whole morning. I used to be a light sleeper, waking up to the slightest disturbance and satisfied with sleeping rather short periods. Nowadays I sleep like a log. Signs of old age.

Anyway, not too long after I woke up and had my usual morning (which turned out to be afternoon) routine, Howard called me to ask if I wanted to join him and Ivan hanging out in Edward’s house. I thought it’d be fun so I tagged along. Howard and I hadn’t had our lunches so we got ourselves chicken rice on the way there. Upon reaching Edward’s house, I found out Clement and Wei How was already there. They were there since their morning futsal session ended. Anyhow, we got there in time to catch half of Jurassic Park II which was showing on Astro. I was munching down my lunch in front of the TV – something I haven’t done in quite some time.

As soon as Jurassic Park ended, Ivan hooked up his Playstation 2 to Edward’s TV. That was sort of the main reason we were there. Ivan bought a copy of King of Fighters XI and we were there to beat the daylights out of each other. In the game lah. Most of us there were supposed to be experienced players, but when we first started out we were playing like newbies. And Howard was screaming like a girl.

I played a little while and soon my thumbs got tired. I used to be a console gamer before I started college, but my thumbs have been left in a dormant state for a little too long. The stamina from years of ‘training’ was lost. How sad. Haha. My thumbs are relegated to only hitting the Spacebar and the Alt key now.

So I went and played Edward’s computer instead. I feel far more at home with a keyboard and a mouse, thought it’d better even better if they were MY keyboard and MY mouse! :D I was browsing through Edward’s list of games and found one – Infernal - I haven’t played before, so I started it up. And spent the next few hours arguing with Edward about how cool the game is. He had only played the game for 5 minutes and he said it was lame! I on the other hand thought it was pretty cool. So I went on showing how cool the game was to him while Howard was still screaming like a girl in the background, prompting Edward to shut the door more than a couple of times. Edward still thinks the game is lame. Boo.

Time really flies when you’re having fun, before long it was way past usual dinner time and Edward was getting hungry so I made the rest stop playing and get dinner. Which led to a long discussion on where to go – almost a customary process among us where we spend more time discussing where to eat than doing the actual eating. We finally decided on some place in Kuchai Lama so we headed there in two cars. I must have not been thinking straight when I ordered my dinner. I asked for Herbal Chicken Steamed Rice when I just had chicken rice for lunch. I like chicken, I really do. But even for me it was chicken-overload. Particularly when I didn’t had green juicy vegetables to go along. I always get the feeling that my meals are not balanced when I don’t see greens. I have this strange taste for vegetables, I like them being stalky instead of leafy and I’d eat them even if they were just boiled with… urh… water.

Edward gave me and Ivan a lift home after dinner. It was pretty late and we were all tired. I didn’t get any work done at all today. Not a single bit. But I must admit I had fun. It was a simple day, but it is days like this which reminds me how simple things can be so much fun. Especially when you are in good company.

Englishly?

English language puzzles me sometimes. I was searching for a weird *erhum* term in my dictionary. I didn’t find what I wanted, but it returned several suggestions instead. One of them was spiderly - simply meaning “relating to or resembling a member of the class Arachnida”. It was the word spider added with a simple suffix, and I went hey how can you simply add a suffix like that and say it’s a valid word?!

In disbelief, I went searching for similar terms – chickenly, duckly, fishly, birdly, fishly, centipedely, pigly, catly, tigerly, monkeyly……. you get my point.

None of them exists. So why is there such a word like spiderly? What makes spiders more distinguished than say… chicken?! If there’s any animal which should be given that kind of recognition, it should be chicken. I want to be able to say “hey this burger tastes chickenly.”

But why spiders???

Here you are. A lame theme as Ivan said. It took me an hour or so, so don’t expect much! No more bandwidth-hungry theme! A very very “lite” theme so it should load faster now. Like a lot faster. If it doesn’t, I’ll quit blogging.

Update: Major flaw found. My theme wasn’t widget-ready. Hahaha. What a blunder. It’s widgetised now anyway.

Got tagged by Wandkey. Why oh why me. Fortunately it’s only the things on my desk. Let’s not even talk about what’s in my desk drawers.

My desk is the only desk I have in the entire house. So I really do have a LOT of things on it.

A water bottle.
Another water bottle.
Yet another water bottle.
A stack of burnt CDs.
A stack of unburnt CDs.
A stack of burnt DVDs.
A stack of unburnt DVDs.
A tissue box.
A makeshift waste box.
A spare NIC.
3 batteries.
A few cable ties.
My oh-so-lovely Dell 1907FP.
A webcam.
Computer speakers.
A few sheets of notes.
A clock.
My mouse and his home.
A flashlight.
A little box for loose change.
A box of diskettes.
A stationary holder overloading with pens.
My wallets.
A couple tiny pocketbooks.
My student card.
A few bottles of supplements I take.
A roll of Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) tape. Don’t ask.
My house keys.
My thumbdrives.
A bottle of white chocolate.
An automatic voltage regulator (AVR).
Huge stacks of CDs. 4 folders to be exact.

And that’s only the stuff on my desk! Goodness.
